“Screaming Harbinger screams, like an air raid siren”

- from ‘Harbinger’ in Harbinger: The Medium and the Message by Dulani Wilson

It’s on the horizon. As we prepare to raise the necessary funds to execute Lazarus Rising the right way, I just want to personally thank the people that donated whatever they had to the cause, from the hard-earned pound, to advice or encouragement. We are 34% closer to our target. Don’t let up now. The dead are not going to undead themselves. Here’s to seeing you on the other side of the ELE baby.

The Lazarus Complex…

Like playing with matches, lighting brambles to keep warm, sometimes things spread with epic proportions and consume forests of thought.

Originally I had planned to create a short that provided some back story to the Lazarus phenomena that would be more on the spy/thriller paradigm, but after great consideration, failed attempts at securing actors and redrafts, I felt I would need to treat this film with more care and the only way I could do that was to sever it from being a part of the Lazarus Rising‘s canon. Main reason being, the storyline, not having the brazen impact of horror, but more of the tension and subtlety  you would find in you favourite spy /thriller, I felt warping the script to fit the Lazarus Rising‘s paradigm would be too much of a restriction rather than a bolstering element.

So when all is said and done, Merchants of Quietus will be treated as a film in itself, rather than a promo for Lazarus Rising. But this entry is to just brandish the flag and show the origins of this short’s short. Bringing life to other ideas. As a creative it is just a great experience seeing something you create transform and grow, and creative 101 has to be never be too married to an idea. At times the very thing you consider to be a strength turns out to be a hinderance.

We filmed MOQ on the 15th of February, and it was a good set, with some amazing talent to say the least. Some known personally to me. Others I’ve met for the first time. My humble thanks for helping out, gang.

A website/Facebook page for the short will be set up, so be sure to look out for that in the coming weeks. I’ll put a link up for you all to see soon enough so you can have a look at recce/production pics and story art. Til then, stay tuned and continue to spread the word of Lazarus Rising like a plague.

We make our stand here. Hamburger Hill.

Black Box: Introducing Sope Dirisu

Meet another Black Box Voice Talent: Sope Dirisu, who plays the voice of Private Maurice. Green around the gills, the timidity and fear exemplified by his voice, makes him the most mentally intune to the danger that is about to erupt in apocalyptic proportions.

He has just finished working in Stratford-Upon-Avon, playing Pericles with the Royal Shakespeare Company and can currently be seen at the Cockpit Theatre working with Liminal Space 10 in their current project ‘Fallujah’. He has been a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain for many years performing in numerous shows with them, including James Graham’s ‘Tory Boyz’ and ‘Our Days of Rage’ in the Old Vic Tunnels.”

As of this Moment…

This week has been particularly busy, planning and trying to make contact with necessary people. Recently sent off a few film fund applications so will be waiting for word on those in the coming weeks.

Have a look at our Prop List, see if you have anything you are willing to donate. Though as of now this is not as important as rallying up support. I am also planning a little fundraising event…. more news on that soon.

Necro Art #6 Premiere: God’s Light.

Light that burns like a quasar. It expands in front of you. A primitive mind fails to grasp the enormity of something that a genius compressed into a simple equation. Napoleon said:

“God is on the side with the best artillery.”

So it is only safe to assume whoever finger hovers over the button is the Saint of Death.

The single, resounding and defining moment the world changes for our Soldier in Lazarus Rising begins with ‘God’s Light’…

… and ends with man’s undoing.

Man is nothing but a speck on this vast blackness we have called universe. And there are moments we a dwarfed, overwhelmed even, by great unknowns. I like this image for one particular reason, the composition. The extreme low angle creates a lovely sense of dynamism. But also, in the traditional  sense, low angles connotate the viewed object as powerful. This Image however does the opposite; a soldier, who is already large in the frame, is further dwarfed by the looming clouds of downwind.  This is the first time we see the nuclear explosion, rather remnants of it, and I believe the image both makes a unique cinematic reveal of this man-made blight of chaos whilst connoting a sense of vast despair and awe in the soldier who stands under the nuclear cloud.

War transforms wholly. Eternally.

God’s Light (Teaser)

Tyger, Tyger, Burning bright,

Who could be affront to the awe of God’s Light?

God in an equation. The white tears his soul asunder like cloth. The Jarhead desperately, futilely, tries to shield his eyes and his very body from the ever-expanding light, that burns with such a growing intensity. Even in God’s awesome presence, comfort is non-existent; he only feels fear, that primitive evolutionary tug on his lizard brain. So he does not pray for peace, nor does he pray for mercy. His lustful brain only demands survival.

I am releasing the new concept art for Lazarus Rising with a little vid. on Friday so be on the lookout on all social networks: Twitter, Facebook and Youtube and Vimeo. Just a taste:

Necro Art #4- “Theta 6 Nerve Gas”

LAZARUS RISING: Theta 6 Nerve Gas. ©2012 Artwork by Dulani Wilson. All Rights Reserved.

LAZARUS RISING: Theta 6 Nerve Gas. ©2012 Artwork by Dulani Wilson. All Rights Reserved.

Man’s ingenuity is only matched by his gruelling sadistic nature. In Lazarus Rising, they use of a volatile nerve agent called Theta 6 plays a ugly role in the creation of sanguineous, subhuman creatures. Even moreso than a sadistic Soldier. The can’s design a relative designs of CS gas used for ‘crowd control‘ all over the world. Funny how this batch will help lead to the world plunging in to utter chaos.

Being an important device in the narrative contract, I felt it necessary to design and make concept art surrounding the look of the can. As for the name. The Theta symbol is Greek and is commonly synomynous with death (vaguely representing the human skull and used as a warning symbol). The symbol was also used by Athenians when they voted for the death sentence on the imprisoned. ’6′ is just a bad ass number. From a phonetic stand point, the whole word is fricative, the sounds that mirrors and mimics a hissing sound. Then of course you could make certain analysis, like multiples of 3 being ominous in Elizabethan times, or the biblical reference to the Anti-christ. But over all, on top of that, it’s just a cool-sounding name.

Eyes will water, Throats and nostrils will flair and burn. It will do everything it says on the can. Almost everything

Harshly squashing dissent will only give rise to something uglier.
